The Emperor, with supreme sagacity, governs Heaven and shines with great brightness to rule the realm. He dominates the nine generations and outstrips the hundred kings. His supreme virtue ascends to permeate on high; his profound benevolence drips down to seep below. His majestic power spreads westwards; his noble teachings influence eastwards. He disseminates governance in the Mingtang and investigates rituals in the Grand Hall; he spreads music across the vast wilderness and assembles the lords on Mount Tu. Heaven begrudges not its treasures, and spirits omit no auspicious gifts. Scaled and feathered creatures manifest wonders; mountains and marshes present blessings. Chinese and barbarian alike follow in submission; the unseen and the visible are all kept in order. The eight regencies are well arrayed, and the six stars of the asterism report peace. Yet he still lodges his aspirations in the profound and dark, focusing his spirit on emptiness and quietude. Looking down upon the mundane realms as lowly, he casts off physical form and conditioned existence. He rescues pure beings from vessels of suffering, and delivers the desire realm from its perilous city. Body and mind ascend to the realm of pure joy; living beings revere the power of the Guide. The Empress, in her profound virtue, supports all things, holding the proper rank to pair with Heaven. Her virtue surpasses Shaoling; her deeds exceed those of the Xin and the Si mothers. The cloud of wisdom rises in the morning, and the four forms of birth await its gathering drop by drop; the lamp of compassion is lit at night, and the nine domains are illuminated by its remaining light. Thereupon, gazing upon the Asterism of Shen, which is truly the ancient land of Tang, the mountains and rivers encircle it like guards, a belt of rugged and distant scenery. In the eastern suburbs, a splendid site, they accordingly erected a precious monastery. Majestic as if a city created by transformation, wondrous as if springing up from the earth. Soon, the sun's path entered the Western Quadrant, and the seasonal qi matched the Nanlü bell. The autumn wind stirred the wilds; the white frost gave warning of the cold. The Sage Lord rode the transformations to tour the quarters, in accord with the seasons nurturing all creatures. The six dragons advanced his carriage, and the seven sages kept pace with his chariot. Kingfisher plumes fluttered on banners; carved jade turned slowly on wheels. Inquiring after centenarians, he halted his carriage; receiving the court of all spirits, he checked his pace. Brave warriors like Xiongqu and Cifei served within the palace guards; lords of the Tiger Palace and Golden Gate gazed afar at the attending carriages. About to arrive at the lower capital, they encountered this pure domain. All rejoiced in the view of Vulture Peak; all were delighted by the excursion to the dragon palace. Touching feet in reverence and washing their minds, they all offered sincere devotion. Drawing upon emptiness and summoning quietude, they straightaway gave voice to poems and songs. Although this matter may be compared to beating a carriage shaft and its meaning likened to tapping an ox horn, it is nonetheless how one majestically celebrates supreme achievements and praises glorious beauty. How could it be like the writings of Gao Chai and Dongfang Shuo that barely present the prayers of a young man, or the seal carvings of Wang and Gu that merely serve as analogies for women's craft? There were twenty-six authors, and their words are as follows:
