名家者流。蓋出於禮官。古者名位不同禮亦異數。孔子曰。必也正名乎。名不正則言不順。言不順則事不成。此其所長也。

"The school of Names probably arose from the office of Ritual Officials (Liguan). In antiquity, names and ranks were not the same, and the rituals also differed in degree. Confucius said: 'Must it not be the rectification of names? If names are not rectified, language cannot be in accord; if language is not in accord, affairs cannot be successfully completed.' This is their strength."
