墨家者流。蓋出於清廟之官。茅屋採椽。是以貴儉。養三老五更。是以兼愛。選士大射。是以上賢。宗祀嚴父。是以有鬼。此其所長也。

"The school of Mohists probably arose from the office of the Clear Temple (Qingmiao). Thatched roofs and unhewn rafters—hence they valued frugality. Nourishing the Three Elders and Five Experienced Ones—hence they held universal love. Selecting gentlemen through the great archery contest—hence they elevated the worthy. Sacrificing to ancestors and revering fathers—hence they acknowledged ghosts. This is their strength."
