'Entreaty' means the utmost intent of earnest devotion. Arising from earnest intent, the desire for goodness is profound. Therefore, in all minute virtues, one must earnestly entreat them, advancing them to generate wise practice without permitting abandonment halfway. However, entreaty is twofold: entreating sentient beings to cultivate precepts and goodness and fully equip all roots of virtue; and entreating all Buddhas to rescue and protect sentient beings, expound the Dharma, and dwell long [in the world].
