1.36

帝乃大笑。弟子知師有證達之理。無畏懼焉。法師對曰。貧道未得過人法。又不敢增上慢。譬如弟子爵位封王。帝命將勅巡省革易風俗。其王見到郡縣官人豈有不懼以不。

The Emperor then laughed heartily [and said], "I know that you, Master, possess realized truth and are without fear." The Dharma Master replied, "I have not yet attained superhuman qualities, nor do I dare give way to overweening pride. But consider, for instance, if you, my disciple, were enfeoffed as a king, and by imperial command were ordered to make an inspection tour to transform custom and habit: when that king arrived, would the officials of the commanderies and counties dare not to be afraid?"
