法師說偈訖。白道士曰。諸大德欲有所問者。前出共論。爾時嵩嶽道士呂惠通對曰。吾等諸人。不量德力輒欲比校。向見神光顯照絕世難知。又逢大士神變奇特。無比天樂垂音。以開我等迷路。天華表瑞。始知大道有歸。我等未解聖法。焉敢諮問。

After the Dharma Master finished speaking the verse, he said to the Daoist masters, "If you venerables wish to ask anything, come forward and let us debate together." At that time, the Mount Song Daoist master Lü Huitong replied, "We, without measuring our virtue or strength, rashly wished to contend with you. Just now we saw the divine light brilliantly shine, incomparable in the world and hard to fathom; and we encountered the Great Being's extraordinary, divine transformations, while celestial music of unequaled beauty poured down its tones to open our bewildered path. Heavenly flowers displayed auspicious signs, so that we have only now realized where the Great Way returns. We do not yet understand the holy Dharma; how would we dare make inquiries?"
