明帝即從坐起禮法師足。白法師曰。弟子常處生死淪沒愛河。今值正教東流傳之初始。願師大慈開縱曉示。法師受請默然如許。

Emperor Ming then rose from his seat, paid homage at the Dharma Master's feet, and addressed the Dharma Master, saying, "I constantly dwell in birth and death, sinking in the river of craving. Now I encounter the initial transmission of the eastern flow of the True Teaching. I pray that the Master, in great compassion, will freely open and explain it to us." The Dharma Master accepted the request, silently consenting.
