予以麟德元年夏六月二十日。於終南山北酆陰之清宮精舍集之。素有風氣之疾。兼以從心之年。恐奄忽泫露靈感沈沒。遂力疾出之直筆。而疏頗存大略而已。庶後有勝事。復寄導於吾賢乎。其餘不盡者。統在西明寺道律師新撰法苑珠林百卷內具顯之矣。

On the twentieth day of the sixth month in the summer of the first year of the Linde era, I compiled this at the Qinggong Hermitage on the northern, shady side of Zhongnan Mountain. Having long suffered from an illness caused by wind-vapors, and being moreover at the age of following the heart's desires, I feared that I might suddenly perish like vanishing dew, causing these numinous resonances to sink into oblivion. I thereupon pressed myself despite illness to write them down directly, leaving behind merely a broad outline. May those who come later and encounter sublime events once again convey and guide our worthy companions! What remains incomplete here is fully displayed throughout the hundred scrolls of the newly compiled Fayuan zhulin by Vinaya Master Dao[xuan] of Ximing Temple.
