3.33

涅槃經第六卷云。出家人不禮敬在家人。四分律云。佛令諸比丘長幼相次禮拜。不應禮拜一切白衣。

The sixth fascicle of the Nirvāṇa Sūtra states: "Renunciants do not bow in reverence to laypeople." The Four-Part Vinaya states: "The Buddha instructed the monks to bow down to one another according to seniority; they should not bow down to any white-robed layperson."
