Prince Wenxuan Xiao Ziliang of Jingling under the Qi was widely read in the Six Classics and wandered in mind through the seven categories of books; the world called him a sea of writing, and the times named him the master of Ru. Dedicating himself to the śramaṇas, he revered Buddhist scriptures, lectured on the Tattvasiddhi-śāstra, chanted the Lotus Sūtra, and composed the Jingzhu zi (Pure Dwelling) in over twenty fascicles. All his stipends from the state were used to cultivate merit. His hidden resonance with elegant Sanskrit chants was comparable to that of the Prince of Chen; his personal exposition of the rue was identical to Śakra. As soon as the golden words were opened, they had already surpassed past minds; no sooner was the jade roller unrolled than it first flared and then blazed. Raising the carriage blinds in the Eastern Xia, he transformed the customs of Yuejue; upholding auspiciousness at the West River, he altered the traditions of Longzhong.
