Zhang Xu, Specially Advanced under the Qi (resolved his mind upon the ultimate truth); Zhou Yong, Director of the Secretariat under the Qi (his understanding of the profound excelled his age); He Yin, Palace Attendant, Minister of Revenue, Director of the Secretariat, Household Sponsor of the Crown Prince, Chancellor of the National University, and Recluse under the Qi: as for the latter, his pure conduct was loyal and meticulous, his strength of character relaxed and ample. Bearing the auspicious qi of the Jade Candle, he answered the single era of great worthies. His learning exhausted the classics and histories; his heart embraced the profound and abstruse. Harmonising with Heaven, he altered the order of music; Queen-like, he established the rites of the Qutai. He steeped himself in the discourses of Jixia and the writings of Ouyang and Master Xiao. In the Book of Changes, he dissected Jing Fang and Shi Chou; in the Book of Songs, he distinguished the Han and Chu versions; he provided commentary and exposition for them all, and there was nothing he did not cover. Those who sought instruction and raised doubts arrived empty and returned fulfilled; when he gathered disciples to teach, those who mastered the discipline formed crowds. At Prajñā Monastery he erected a column of bright pearls; he was deeply inclined toward the Śākya clan and warmly held the inner teaching in high esteem. The pearl column emitted light for seven days and seven nights.
