猶孟孫等四人問孝。詞同而答異（論語孟懿子問孝。子曰無違。孟武伯問孝。子曰。父母惟其疾之憂。子游問孝。子曰。今之孝者。是為能養。至於犬馬皆能有養。不敬何以別乎。子憂問孝。子曰。色難。有事弟子服其勞。有酒食。先生饌。曾是以為孝乎。此謂問孝之言詞皆同。天子所答而有別異也）。

Just as when four people, including Mengsun, asked about filial piety: the words of the question were the same, but the answers differed (In the Analects, Meng Yizi asked about filial piety, and the Master said: 'Do not disobey.' Meng Wubo asked about filial piety, and the Master said: 'Let your parents only worry about your illness.' Ziyou asked about filial piety, and the Master said: 'Nowadays filial piety means being able to provide sustenance. Even dogs and horses can receive sustenance; without respect, what is the distinction?' Zixia asked about filial piety, and the Master said: 'The countenance is difficult. When there is work, the young take on the labor; when there is wine and food, the elders partake—could this alone be considered filial piety?'
