孟子曰。吾聞以夏變夷者。未聞變於夷者也（此責陳相許行用諸夏之禮儀。變為蠻夷者也）。

Mencius said, 'I have heard of using the Xia to transform the barbarians, but I have not heard of being transformed by the barbarians' (This rebuked Chen Xiang and Xu Xing for using the rituals of the Xia states to transform into southern barbarians).
