臯陶能罪盜濫。不能化貪夫為夷齊（陶音姚。舜賢臣。雖有片言折獄之才。不能勸化獄中盜濫之徒。為伯夷叔齊之義讓）。

Gaoyao could penalize thieves and profligates, but could not transform greedy men into Boyi and Shuqi; (The pronunciation of 陶 is *yáo*. He was a worthy minister of Shun. Although he had the talent to settle lawsuits with a single word, he could not exhort and transform the crowd of thieves and profligates in prison into the righteous deference of Boyi and Shuqi.)
