聖人能授人之戒律。不能驅人履而行之（佛聖雖能授與人戒法律儀。固不能使人堅守不犯而行之）。

a sage can transmit precepts and vinaya to others, but cannot force them to step forth and practice them; (Although a Buddhist sage can transmit the rules and deportment of the precepts to others, he certainly cannot make them firmly uphold them without transgression and practice them.)
