The body is not wood or stone—how could it go naked without clothing? Though the hands and feet be nimble and quick, they are not enough to escape hunger; one must rely on food and drink to nourish life. Though the hair be dense, it is not enough to ward off cold; one must rely on clothing to cover the body. Therefore we know that clothing and food can sustain the body and life, and the body and life can sustain the endeavors of the Way (once clothing and food are provided, they can sustain and nourish the body and life; once the body and life are secure, they can assist the endeavors of the Way).
