昔者虞舜耕於歷山。恩澤不霑於朋戚。衣食不及於二親（虞國舜都。舜初耕於歷山。漁於雷澤。陶於河濱。側陋微賤之時。朋友親戚之處。無恩惠之與霑父母之前。無豐盛衣食之所養。如此者何也。蓋以未遇其時也）。

In antiquity, when Yu Shun plowed at Mount Li, his favor and kindness did not moisten friends or relatives, and clothing and food did not reach his parents (Yu was Shun's state and capital; when Shun first plowed at Mount Li, fished at Lake Leize, and potted on the riverbank, during the time he was obscure and lowly, among friends and relatives there was no kindness to moisten them, and before his parents there was no abundant clothing and food to nourish them; why was it like this? It was because he had not yet met his time).
