3.48

故君子不可小知而可大受也（君子者成德之稱。不以微小之知。可許受之以大也）。

Therefore, the noble person cannot be known through petty matters, but can receive great responsibilities. (A 'noble person' is the designation of perfected virtue; one does not gauge them by petty knowledge, but can entrust them with what is great.)
