"The Upādhyāya's practice ascended the ten stages; he came from the Five Indias. He expounded Yoga and propagated the Sanskrit manuscripts. Having travelled ten thousand li, he served through three courts. He translated the holy words of old, receiving the transmissions directly from his masters. Meeting the flourishing fortune of the Xiawu, he continued the flame of the preceding fuel. Expanding the bodhisattva heart, he fell ill for the sake of sentient beings; Our inquiries lingered, and the imperial grief deepened. All is approved according to what has been requested." At that time, when the Tripiṭaka Master and Upādhyāya Amoghavajra of Vast Wisdom—Specially Advanced with the Dignity Equal to the Three Authorities, Acting Court of Imperial Regalia Chamberlain, and Duke of the State of Su—submitted his memorial to state his feelings, the Sagely Benevolence shed tears, and an ink rescript was swiftly dispatched, granting all that was requested according to the Upādhyāya's wishes. Having expressed his mind, he single-mindedly practiced contemplation, lay on his right side with feet crossed, and peacefully died. His disciples wailed and yearned; an inner envoy memorialised the Emperor. The Sacred Sovereign grieved exceptionally deeply and suspended court audiences for three days. Thereupon an inner envoy was dispatched to the saṅghārāma to comfort the assembly of disciples and bestow funeral donations.
