Those who have attained can reach fulfillment: srotāpannas and sakṛdāgāmins are able to cut off the bonds of the desire realm, the various entanglements, aggregates, and sense bases. Therefore it is said: those who have attained can exhaust Māra's source. Persons who enter samādhi and sit in meditation delight in dwelling in quietude, setting their minds on singleness of thought, counting the inhalations and exhalations, and holding their intent firmly; they are able to sever Māra's bonds and bind Māra. Persons who enter samādhi can command ghosts and spirits, who arrive as soon as wished. One should seek expedients to sever Māra's firm bonds. (Taken from the fifth fascicle of the Udānavarga.)
