When Śakra Devānām Indra was in the Sudharmā lecture hall, amusing himself with heavenly maidens, a devaputra spoke to Śakra, saying, 'Kausika, you should know that an evil ghost is now sitting on your throne. The Thirty-Three Gods are utterly enraged, yet the ghost only turns more handsome and his countenance surpasses ordinary.' Śakra Devānām Indra then thought, 'This ghost must be a spirit of wonderful power.' He went to the ghost's place, stopping not far off, and declared his name: 'I am Śakra Devānām Indra, lord of the devas.' The evil ghost then turned ugly and loathsome, and gradually vanished.
