菩薩初出半夜行　車匿辭別牽揵陟
以苦逼切失威儀　迴還八日乃到宮

“The Bodhisattva first departed, traveling at midnight; / Chandaka bade farewell and led Kaṇṭhaka back. / Pressed hard by distress, he lost all dignity of bearing; / Only after turning back for eight days did he reach the palace.”
