11.63

又中本起經云。世尊念言。吾昔路由梵志。阿蘭迦蘭待吾有禮。應往度之。天空中曰。此二人已亡七日。又念。應度欝頭藍弗。天復告云。昨日命終。又念父王昔遣五人。一名拘隣。二名頞陛。三名跋提。四名十力迦葉。五名摩訶男。執侍功勤應往度之。

Furthermore, the Zhong benqi jing states: The World-Honoured One thought: 'Formerly my path went via the brahmacārin Ārāḍa Kālāma, who treated me with courtesy; I should go and deliver him.' In the sky, a deity said: 'This person passed away seven days ago.' Again he thought: 'I should deliver Udraka Rāmaputra.' The deity again announced: 'He passed away yesterday.' Again he thought: 'Formerly my father the king dispatched five men: the first named Kauṇḍinya, the second named Aśvajit, the third named Bhadrika, the fourth named Daśabala Kāśyapa, and the fifth named Mahānāman. Their service and toil were diligent; I should go and deliver them.'
