The Guanfo sanmei jing also states: "In the remote past, immeasurable ages ago, a Buddha appeared in the world named Ratnatejas-agrarāja. At that time, there was a bhikṣu who went with nine disciples to a Buddha stūpa to pay homage to a Buddha image. They saw a jeweled image, majestic, prominent, and lovely to behold. Having prostrated, they gazed attentively at it and spoke verses of praise. Afterwards, when their lives ended, they were all reborn in the eastern Buddha-land of Ratnatejas-agrarāja. Sitting cross-legged inside a great lotus flower, they were suddenly born by transformation. From that time onward, they constantly met Buddhas, purely cultivated the noble conduct in the presence of those Buddhas, and attained the ocean-like samādhi of recollecting the Buddha. Having attained the samādhi, the Buddhas bestowed predictions upon them, and they each attained buddhahood in the ten directions. The Buddha Bhadraśrī of the east was that master; his nine disciples became the Buddhas of the nine directions: namely, in the south-east, the Buddha Aśokaśrī; in the south, the Buddha Candanaśrī; in the south-west, the Buddha Ratnaprada; in the west, the Buddha Amitaprabha; in the north-west, the Buddha Kusumaprabha; in the north, the Buddha Lakṣaṇaśrī; in the north-east, the Buddha Triyānacarya; in the nadir, the Buddha Prabhāśrī; in the zenith, the Buddha Vipulagaṇaśrī. These ten Buddhas, through the past cause of paying homage at a stūpa, viewing an image, and praising it with a single verse, have now each attained buddhahood in the ten directions."
