1.12

如觀佛三昧經云。昔過去久遠無量世時。有佛出世。號寶威德上王。時有比丘。與九弟子。往詣佛塔禮拜佛像。見一寶像嚴顯可觀。禮已諦視說偈讚歎。後時命終悉生東方寶威德上王佛國大蓮華中。結跏趺坐忽然化生。

As the Guanfo sanmei jing states: Long ago in the past, immeasurable lifetimes ago, there was a Buddha who appeared in the world named Jewel-Awe-Virtue-Supreme-King. At that time there was a bhikṣu who, together with nine disciples, went to a stūpa to pay homage to a Buddha image. Seeing a precious image that was splendid, magnificent, and delightful to behold, after paying homage they gazed at it attentively and recited verses in praise. Later, when their lives ended, they were all reborn in the eastern Buddha-land of Jewel-Awe-Virtue-Supreme-King within great lotus flowers, suddenly taking apparitional rebirth sitting cross-legged.
