17.69

又大集經云。若有眾生於過去世作諸惡業。或毀於法。或謗聖人。於說法者為作障礙。或抄寫經法洗脫文字。或損壞他法。或闇藏他經。由此業緣令得盲報。

Furthermore, the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra says: "If there are sentient beings who committed various evil karmas in past lives, either disparaging the Dharma or slandering holy persons, creating obstacles for expounders of the Dharma, or washing out and effacing characters when copying the sūtras and Dharma, or damaging others' Dharma [texts], or secretly concealing others' sūtras, due to these karmic conditions they will receive the retribution of blindness."
