2.66

又大集經云。若有眾生。於過去世作諸惡業。或毀於法。或謗聖人。於說法者為作障礙。或抄寫經法洗脫文字。或損壞他法。或闇藏他經。由此業緣今得盲報。

Furthermore, the Mahāsaṃnipāta-sūtra says: 'If there are sentient beings who committed various evil karmas in past lives, either disparaging the Dharma, slandering holy persons, creating obstacles for those who expound the Dharma, washing out characters when transcribing scriptures and teachings, damaging others' dharmas, or secretly concealing others' scriptures, due to the conditions of these karmas they now receive the retribution of blindness.'
