19.14

迦葉白佛言。若有長宿護持禁戒。從年少邊諮受未聞。云何是人當禮敬不。若當禮敬。是則不名為持戒也。若是年少護持禁戒。從諸宿舊破戒人邊諮受未聞。復應禮不。若出家人從在家人諮受未聞。復當禮不。然出家人不應禮敬在家人也。然佛法中年少幼小。應當恭敬耆舊長宿。以是長宿先受具戒成就威儀。是故應當恭敬供養。

Kāśyapa addressed the Buddha: "If there is a senior elder who protects and upholds the prohibitive precepts, and he inquires about and receives what he has not yet heard from a youth, should this person venerate and bow to him or not? If he should venerate and bow to him, then this is not termed upholding the precepts. If a youth who protects and upholds the prohibitive precepts inquires about and receives what he has not yet heard from senior elders who have broken the precepts, should he again prostrate or not? If a renunciant inquires about and receives what he has not yet heard from a householder, should he again prostrate or not? Yet a renunciant should not venerate and bow to a householder. However, in the Buddha's Dharma, the young and junior should respect the venerable and senior, because these seniors were the first to receive the complete precepts and have perfected deportment; therefore, one should respect them and make offerings to them."
