2.85

迦葉白佛言。若有長宿護持禁戒。從年少邊諮受未聞。云何是人當禮敬不。若當禮敬。是則不名為持戒也。若是年少護持禁戒。從諸宿舊破戒人邊。諮受未聞復應禮不。若出家人從在家人。諮受未聞。復當禮不。然出家人不應禮敬在家人也。然佛法中年少幼小。應當恭敬耆舊長宿。以是長宿先受具戒成就威儀。是故應當供養恭敬。

Kāśyapa said to the Buddha: If there is an elder who protects and maintains the prohibitive precepts, who inquires about and receives what he has not heard from a youth, how is it: should this person pay homage, or not? If he should pay homage, then he is not called a keeper of precepts. If a youth protects and maintains the prohibitive precepts, and inquires about and receives what he has not heard from elders who have broken the precepts, should he again pay homage, or not? If one who has left the household inquires about and receives what he has not heard from a householder, should he again pay homage, or not? However, one who has left the household should not pay homage and respect to a householder. Moreover, in the Buddha's Dharma, the youth and young should respect the senior and elderly, because these elders received the full precepts earlier and accomplished the deportment. Therefore, one should make offerings and pay respect.
