Under Emperor Taiwu of the Former Wei, the śramaṇa Tanshi had remarkable divine anomalies. He constantly sat and did not lie down for over fifty years. His feet never touched shoes; when walking barefoot through mud and filth, he would simply shake his feet and they were clean, white in color like flour. The worldly called him the 'White-Footed Āraṇyaka.' When Helian Chang sacked Chang'an, he did not believe in the Buddha's Dharma and executed and harmed monks and nuns. When Tanshi was struck with naked blades, he was not harmed; because of this, many monks and nuns escaped death. Taiwu revered him. More than ten years after his death, the appearance and color of his body did not change.
