29.40

聖慮。乃命使人朝散大夫行衛尉寺丞上護軍李義表副使。前融州黃水縣令王玄策等二十二人巡撫其國。遂至摩訶菩提寺所菩提樹下金剛之座。賢劫千佛並於中成道。嚴飾相好具若真容。靈塔淨地巧窮天外。此乃曠代所未見。史籍所未詳。

and thereupon commanded the envoys, Li Yibiao, Court Gentleman for Court-Leaving Service, Acting Aide of the Court of the Imperial Insignia, and Upper Commandant of Cavalry, along with Wang Xuance, former Magistrate of Huangshui County in Rongzhou, as Vice Envoy, and others—twenty-two men in all—to tour and pacify those countries. They thereupon arrived at the vajrāsana beneath the Bodhi Tree at the Mahābodhi Monastery, where the thousand Buddhas of the Bhadrakalpa all attained the Path. Its adornments and physical marks are fully present, just like the true countenance; the miraculous stūpa and pure ground exhaust celestial skill beyond the heavens. This indeed has never been seen across ages, nor detailed in historical records.
