33.58

又雜譬喻經云。昔佛弟難陀。乃往昔維衛佛時人。一洗眾僧之福功德。自追生在釋種身。珮五六之相神容晃昱金色。乘前之福與佛同世。研精道場便得六通。古人施一猶有弘報。況今檀越能多行者。普等之行必逮尊號。加增歡喜廣度一切。

Furthermore, the Za piyu jing (Miscellaneous Avadāna Sūtra) says: In the past, the Buddha's younger brother Nanda was a person during the time of Vipaśyin Buddha. By the blessing and merit of once bathing the monastic saṃgha, following upon himself, he was born in the Śākya clan, possessing thirty auspicious marks, with a radiant, shining countenance and a golden complexion. Riding on his past blessings, he shared the same age as the Buddha, investigated and refined himself in the place of the path, and promptly attained the six supernormal powers. If the ancients, by making a single gift, still received such vast retribution, how much more so for present donors who are able to perform many such acts! Universal and impartial practice will surely attain the exalted title, increasing joy and broadly ferrying across all beings.
