Furthermore, the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya says: When one wishes to bathe, one should have the monastery servants sweep and sprinkle [water], making it clean, and prepare firewood and charcoal so that the warmth is suitable; only then should the gaṇḍī be struck so that they know to enter the bath. Each person uses their waist-belt to tie up their robes as a mark and places them on the clothes rack. When entering, one must not swing both arms to enter, but should enter covering the front with one hand. If one wishes to scrub down a master, one must first announce it, and then there is no offense. One must not raise both hands at the same time; one should first have him scrub one arm with one hand covering the front, and next scrub the other arm, the hands, and the rest of the body inside and out. Then, close the door and sit down to let the body sweat. One must measure the water used and not use too much. If bathing in a pool, one may do as one pleases without offense. Bathing naked in the open ground is not permitted. If the water comes up to the waist or armpits, it is permissible without offense. Sitting in the water up to the navel is also permissible. After coming out, take one's own robes, put them on properly, and leave.
