Furthermore, the Avataṃsaka-sūtra says: 'O sons of the Buddha! When a bodhisattva abides on the Ground of Joy, taking the ten vows as foremost, he generates such millions of asaṃkhyeyas of great vows. He gives rise to these vows with inexhaustible dharmas, and diligently exerts vigorous effort to fulfill these vows. What are the ten? First, that sentient beings are inexhaustible. Second, that worlds are inexhaustible. Third, that empty space is inexhaustible. Fourth, that the realm of phenomena (dharmadhātu) is inexhaustible. Fifth, that nirvāṇa is inexhaustible. Sixth, that the appearance of Buddhas in the world is inexhaustible. Seventh, that the wisdom of the Buddhas is inexhaustible. Eighth, that mind's cognitive objects are inexhaustible. Ninth, that the arising of wisdom is inexhaustible. Tenth, that the turning of wisdom through the turning of the wheel of Dharma in the world is inexhaustible. Only if sentient beings were exhausted would my vows be exhausted... up to, only if the arising of the turnings of wisdom were exhausted would my vows be exhausted. Yet because sentient beings up to the turnings of arising wisdom are truly inexhaustible, my vows and good roots are likewise inexhaustible.'
