第一願使某作佛時。令我國中無有泥犁禽獸薜荔蜎飛蠕動之類。得是願乃作佛。不得是願終不作佛。
"First vow: May it be that when I become a Buddha, in my land there shall be no hells, beasts, hungry ghosts, or flying and creeping wriggling creatures. If I obtain this vow, only then will I become a Buddha; if I do not obtain this vow, I will never become a Buddha.
