34.52

第五願使某作佛時。令八方上下諸無央數天人民。及蜎飛蠕動之類。若前世作惡聞我名字。欲來生我國者。即便反正自悔過。為道作善便持經戒。願欲生我國不斷絕。壽終皆令不復泥犁禽獸薜荔。即生我國在心所願。得是願乃作佛。不得是願終不作佛。

"Fifth vow: May it be that when I become a Buddha, all the countless devas and humans in the eight directions, above and below, and flying and creeping wriggling creatures, if they did evil in former lives, upon hearing my name, wishing to come and be born in my land, shall immediately turn back and repent their faults, practice good for the sake of the Way, uphold the sūtras and precepts, and continuously vow to be born in my land. When their lives end, may none again enter hell, become beasts, or hungry ghosts, but immediately be born in my land as their hearts desire. If I obtain this vow, only then will I become a Buddha; if I do not obtain this vow, I will never become a Buddha.
