The Records of the Western Regions says: By the side of the grove of twin śāla trees, there is separately a couch, on which is an unadorned statue of Śākyamuni Buddha, lying on his right side, two zhang, two chi, and four cun in length, covered over with a golden kāṣāya. It still exists today and frequently emits divine light. Furthermore, to the northeast of Rājagṛha is Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa, where there is the Buddha's kāṣāya stone. When the Buddha was in the world, about to bathe in the pool, he took off his robe here. A vulture bird took the kāṣāya in its beak and flew upward, but then dropped it to the ground, which transformed into this stone. The criss-cross patterns of patches are clearly visible today. To its south is the place where the Buddha viewed the fields and commanded his disciple Nanda to make the kāṣāya; auspicious light also frequently appears there. Envoys of the Great Tang, Wang Xuance and others, went there three times in all, and those who saw it were not just one.
