The Records of Kuaiji states: The Chancellor Wang Dao of the Eastern Jin said: When he first crossed the Yangtze River, there was a man of the Way of extraordinary bearing who said he came from the sea to visit him, and that in the past he had travelled with King Aśoka to Mou County, where they deposited true relics and erected a stūpa to guard it. King Aśoka and various realized men held the stūpa, flew through empty space, and entered the sea. The disciples clung to them to say farewell and all fell at once, transforming into black stones. The stones still have human shapes. The stūpa is at Mount Cakravāḍa. Prefect Lord Chu said: Sea travellers reported that on an island there are gathered black stones shaped like men of the Way, appearing to have clothes. Chu ordered them to be chiselled out and brought for inspection; the veins of the stone all resembled the pattern of a kāṣāya.
