In the twenty-first year of the Zhenguan reign-period of the Tang, a sound came without cause from the southwestern pillar of the pagoda at Daxingguo Temple in Jingzhou. When people went to look, they saw the head of a gilded bronze Buddha emerging. Thus, day by day it gradually emerged, and only after three nights was it fully out. It was about six inches tall and was a standing Buddha. Monastics and laypeople all marveled at it.
