Fifty paces south of the Kaniṣka Stupa, there is a stone stupa. Its form is straight and upright, rising two zhang in height. It possesses great divine transformations and can display portents of good and bad fortune for the people of the world. If one touches it with a finger: if it portends good fortune, the golden bells ring in response; if it portends misfortune, even if someone shakes it, they will refuse to ring. The Record of Sympathetic Resonances for the Maintenance of the Dharma by Master Daoxuan states: 'The Vinaya Master asked the Four Heavenly Kings: "The cremation of the World-Honoured One's relics has just ended. In how many stupas should the relics, ashes, and stones be placed? Do the devas, humans, nāgas, and spirits each obtain a portion?" They answered, saying: "Humans obtain eight portions, devas obtain three portions, nāgas obtain twelve portions, and the ashes and stones are divided into three portions. Spirits obtain two portions, asuras obtain three portions, and the wrestlers obtain one portion. You devas, humans, nāgas, and spirits must be careful not to quarrel! This is the teaching of the World-Honoured One."'
