38.83

又問。伽梨鉢杖等何故歷年住耶。答曰。佛告我言。初度比丘尼損我正法。又為末世多惡比丘貯畜不淨物不受持三衣毀滅正法故。令僧伽梨等六年住僧戒壇。六年住尼戒壇。令正法久住。

"He asked again: 'For what reason do the saṃghāṭī robe, bowl, staff, and so forth remain for [these numbers of] years?' They answered, saying: 'The Buddha told me: "My initial ordination of bhikṣuṇīs brought impairment to my saddharma. Moreover, for the sake of the latter age, when many evil bhikṣus will hoard impure goods, fail to uphold and maintain the three robes, and destroy my saddharma, I order that the saṃghāṭī robe and other items remain for six years at the monks' ordination platform, and for six years at the nuns' ordination platform, so that the saddharma may abide long."'"
