41.19

西方者即是妻。子若有人能供給妻子。衣服飲食臥具湯藥。瓔珞服飾嚴身之具。是人則能供養西方妻子。是妻子復以十四事報之。一所作盡心營之。二常作終不懈慢。三所作必令終竟。四疾作不令失時。五常為瞻視賓客。六淨其房舍臥具。七愛敬言則柔軟。八僮使軟言教詔。九善能守護財物。十晨起夜寐。十一能設淨食。十二能忍教誨。十三能覆惡事。十四能瞻病苦。

The western direction refers to wife and children. If there is a person who can provide for wife and children with clothing, food and drink, bedding, medicines, and necklaces, garments, and bodily ornaments, this person is able to make offerings to the western direction of wife and children. These wife and children in return repay them with fourteen matters: first, managing all tasks with a dedicated mind; second, constantly working and never being negligent or remiss; third, surely bringing their tasks to completion; fourth, acting swiftly without letting time be lost; fifth, constantly receiving and attending to guests; sixth, keeping the rooms, houses, and bedding clean; seventh, speaking softly with love and respect; eighth, instructing servants with gentle words; ninth, being adept at guarding wealth and possessions; tenth, rising at dawn and retiring at night; eleventh, being able to prepare clean food; twelfth, being able to endure instruction; thirteenth, being able to conceal bad matters; fourteenth, being able to attend to illness and distress.
