He Junping of the Qi was a native of Xiangzhou. His mother was of the Pei clan. In her youth she gave birth to Junping, and never conceived again. His parents loved him dearly, just as their own eyes. Because the parents doted heavily on him, as Junping grew up they did not instruct him much in learning, letting him indulge in violence and wander about as he pleased. When he reached twenty years of age, his parents, doting on him, would not allow him to live in a separate chamber. The father was sent on an official journey, and returned only after a year had passed. After the father departed, the mother, doting on [Junping], engaged in an illicit affair with him. When the father returned home, he and his mother killed the father together and buried him in the rear garden, deceitfully telling others that the father had not yet returned. Heavenly thunder blasted the father's corpse out [of the ground], and then struck Junping's body. The causes and conditions were fully inscribed upon his body. Relatives and neighbours reported this to the officials, and it reached the ears of the Emperor. An imperial decree ordered that the Pei woman be executed, and her corpse exposed, not permitting it to be collected and buried. (The above two accounts appear in the Guixin lu of Li.)
