49.78

隋大業中河南人。婦女養姑不孝。姑兩目盲。婦以蚯蚓為羹以食之。姑怪其味。竊藏一臠留以示兒。兒還見之。欲送婦向縣。未及而雨雷震失其婦。俄而婦從空落。身衣如故。而易其頭為白狗頭。言語不異。問其故。答云。以不孝姑為天神所罰。夫以送官。時乞食於市。後不知所在（右一驗出冥報記）。

During the Daye era of the Sui, there was a woman of Henan who provided for her mother-in-law without filial piety. The mother-in-law was blind in both eyes. The daughter-in-law made soup out of earthworms to feed her. The mother-in-law suspected its flavor, and secretly hid a piece of meat to save and show to her son. When the son returned and saw it, he wanted to send his wife to the county magistracy. Before they arrived, rain fell and thunder clapped, and they lost sight of the wife. Soon, the wife fell from the sky, her body and clothes as before, but her head had changed into a white dog's head. Her speech was no different. When asked about the reason, she answered, saying: 'Because of being unfilial to my mother-in-law, I was punished by the deva.' Her husband handed her over to the officials.
