The Shenyi jing states: “In the southeast there is a man who travels all across the world. He is seven chi tall and his waist circumference is equal to his height. He has basket-hair (meaning his hair is tangled and disheveled) and does not eat or drink. In the morning he swallows three thousand evil demons, and in the evening he swallows three hundred. He only swallows them whole without chewing. This man takes demons as food and fog and dew as drink. His name is Tianguo (Heaven’s Rampart); another name is Shixie (Eater of Evil, because he swallows and eats evil demons); another name is Huangfu (Yellow Father; nowadays ordinary people name the Huangfu demons after this person).”
