The Shenyi jing states: “Beyond the northwest seas there is a man two thousand li tall. The distance between his two legs is one thousand li, and his waist circumference is one thousand six hundred li. He drinks only five sheng of wine (heavenly wine, ambrosia) and eats no grains, fish, or meat. Whenever hunger strikes, he faces heaven and is satiated. He loves to roam among mountains and seas, harms not the common people, and disturbs not the myriad creatures. He was born together with heaven and earth. His name is Wulu zhiren (the Roadless Man; meaning he is so tall and huge that no road can accommodate him); another name is Ren (Humaneness; the Book of Rites calls him the humane person); another name is Xin (Trustworthiness; the Book of Rites calls him the trustworthy person); another name is Shen (Spirit; because he was born together with heaven and earth and does not perish, he is called Spirit).”
