54.27

野狐憍慢盛　欲求其眷屬
行到迦夷城　自稱是獸王
人憍亦如是　規統於徒眾
在摩竭之國　法主以自號

"The wild fox's arrogance surged,
Seeking to gain its retinue;
Going to the city of Vārāṇasī,
It proclaimed itself the king of beasts.
Human arrogance is also like this,
Scheming to control assemblies of disciples;
In the kingdom of Magadha,
He styled himself Master of the Dharma."
