爾時鳥聞龍子所說。受八關齋法。口自發言。從今以後盡形壽不殺生如諸佛教。金翅鳥眷屬受三自歸已。即從龍子到海宮殿。彼有七寶塔。諸佛所說諸法深藏。別有七寶函滿中佛經。見諸供養猶如天上。龍子語鳥。我受龍身劫壽未盡。未曾殺生嬈觸水性。時龍子龍女心開意解。壽終之後。皆當得生阿彌陀佛國。

At that time, hearing what the nāga prince said, the bird received the eightfold upoṣadha precepts and declared with his own mouth: ‘From this day forward, to the end of my physical life, I will not take life, in accordance with the teachings of all Buddhas.’ Having taken the three refuges, the garuḍa's retinue followed the nāga prince to the ocean palace. There was a stupa of the seven precious things, a profound repository of all the teachings spoken by the Buddhas, as well as a separate casket of the seven precious things filled with Buddhist scriptures. They saw various offerings just like those in heaven. The nāga prince said to the bird: ‘Though I took a nāga body, my kalpa of life has not ended; yet I have never taken life nor disturbed aquatic beings.’ At that time, the hearts of the nāga prince and the nāga maidens opened and their minds attained understanding. After their lives ended, all were to obtain rebirth in the land of Amitābha Buddha.
