大興中吳郡府舍中。又得二牧物如初。其後太守張茂為吳興兵所殺。尸子曰。地中有犬。名曰地狼。有人名曰無傷。夏鼎志曰。掘地而得狗名曰賈。掘地而得豚名曰邪。掘地而得人名曰聚。聚毋傷也。此物之自然。無謂鬼神而怪之。然則與地狼名異其實一物也。淮南萬畢曰。千歲羊肝化為地宰。蟾蜍得苽卒時為鶉。此皆因氣作。以相感而惑也。

During the Daxing era, in the government quarters of Wu Commandery, two shepherd creatures were again obtained, just as before. Later, the Grand Administrator Zhang Mao was killed by the troops of Wuxing. Shizi said: ‘Underground there is a dog named the earth wolf (dilang); there is a person named harmless (wushang).’ The Xia ding zhi says: ‘Digging the earth and obtaining a dog is called gu; digging the earth and obtaining a piglet is called xie; digging the earth and obtaining a person is called ju. Ju does no harm. These are natural products of things; do not call them ghosts or spirits and marvel at them.’ Thus, though having a different name from the earth wolf, it is in fact the same thing. The Huainan wanbi says: ‘A thousand-year-old sheep's liver transforms into an earth magistrate; when a toad encounters wild rice, in the end it becomes a quail.’ These are all produced by qi, bewitching people through sympathetic resonance.
