The Garden of Strange Phenomena states: "An old commoner of Xincheng in Gaoyang engaged in illicit sacrifices and demonic illusions during the Xianning reign-period of the Jin dynasty, appointing the hundred officials. Furthermore, when he gazed into water as a mirror, he would always see the persons he had appointed dressed magnificently in robes and caps. The common people believed and were deluded, and the capital was agitated; he was arrested and beheaded."
The Garden of Strange Phenomena states: "Sun Xinu of Shangyu possessed many illusion arts. At the beginning of the Yuanjia reign-period, he rebelled and entered Jian'an Commandery. Later he emerged among the common people and could puncture old emaciated lumps, going directly through to the interior of the abdomen without causing pain; when treating someone's wind-induced headache with blood gushing profusely, blowing upon it immediately stopped the bleeding and the wound closed up at once; for tiger maulings, snake bites, and burning poisons near death, all were cured through his binding incantations; whistling long toward the empty sky, flocks of sparrows would gather; chanting incantations at night over mosquitoes and gnats, they all died beside him. In the thirteenth year, he was captured at Changshan by his original master; knowing that he possessed binding arts and fearing he would certainly escape, they bound him securely with cangues and fetters in multiple layers, yet in a few days he had already vanished without a trace."
